After the restrictions, cost and inconvenience of travelling to the US (visa,interview, $100) maybe you should take a large wad of money, everything conceivable to prove your identity and to arrive at the border about a day before you neeed entry. This assumes you have never even had a parking ticket served on you all your life!
On a more serious note, it may be easier to exit the States than get back in - so you may need all the above on the return journey!
You might say I am a bit disgruntled at only visiting Canada now instead of coming down over the border as well, but these new planned restrictions will surely hit your tourism very hard.
