I usually paint the lip on the outside of the rim with a paintbrush and use a touchup gun with low pressure and spray the rest of the rim. I have seen guys sew a wire in the end of an old sheet, and curve it to the shape of the rim and hang it on the tire while they are painting. This works easier if make your cover only cover half of the rim at one time. Don't let your tire lay on the floor while you do this. It tends to change color when you paint. I sometimes paint the rims while the tire is removed. Easier when you are having new tires put on them. You can always go back and touch up anything that gets scratched up. The sheet thing works the best, unless you want to spend along time masking the whole tire.
