Tom, I have a MF 383 with a 248ci engine. I think
the 690 also has the 248 engine. If so, MF makes
a head heating unit that replaces a plug at the
left rear side of the head. Just remove the plug
and screw the heater in. Works good on my 383, it
takes a little more time then a tank heater, but
will get the job done. If your 690 doesn't have
the plug use either a freeze plug unit or the
tank type. The lower hose type heats too much of
the radiator water.
