Kydavid, I am from Mn, I think keeping the cows dry is the #1 thing. The Freestall Dairy I work at quits post-dipping at below Zero, or leaves the udder dry off before sending them to the barn. Wednesday was the first day this winter we didn't dip, it was -10 degrees F in the morning. I have been on a Grazier's dairy whose cows are outside year around, they use lots of bedding. Some use a powder teat dip to get away from Moisture. If you can keep the cows out of a draft it also makes a big difference. I hope this helps Wheels
