Steve , You are right on. Had same problem,I added a cooler first which helped but I still had shudder. Fluid and filter did the trick,and yes there is a plug to drain the torque converter. I am assuming the tranny is an E4OD:very high use in current Ford's. I love it,My 94 F150 4.9L longbed supercab returns 20 mpg on the road if I keep my foot out of it. It has 150,000 and have done only normal maintenance.
