Done it a few times. Usually take a couple of my highschool students with me, though I have do it solo, and with the family. One thing we do that I really like is our county cattlemen's association takes a trip every couple of years. Usually fly somewhere and then rent vans. Co Agent sets up 2-3 stops per day at ranches, farms, and items of interest. Take about 7-10 days, usually drive 1500-2000 miles. So far I've hit every (continental) state south of NY and west except Arizona and Louisana (10 yrs) plus 4 western Canadian provinces. Learned a lot. Cost is moderate. Wife and I did Salt Lake City to Oregon Coast, down to SF and back accross NV for under $1200 total for the both and Seattle accross Canada down into ND and back to Seattle for under $1000.00. Usually about 35 of us. Seen a lot of different things and gotten a lot of good ideas. Want to try Christmas in Calgary, next, wife says too cold.
