The LP would assist a spark ignition engine starting as it's in vapour form above -39F at atmospheric pressure. Liquid gasoline doesn't burn so that why carb choke is used to dump gross amounts of liquid fuel into the engine with the hopw that somw will vapourize and burn. Lp will not knock in any factory built spark ignition engine but either's low octane will. That's the reason why either works so well on cold diesels without glow plugs IF only a wee sniff is used. LP would do little to help start a diesel unless used by a burning torch held up to or into the intake manifold to heat the intake air.
