Don't know about starting a tractor on propane, but it would probably work just fine. However, the use of the word "octane" in a couple of these postings is wrong. Octane is better fuel than heptane because it reduces knocking (precombustion) not because it is burns better. High compression engines that make more horsepower need octane to run without knocking. The association of octane with these engines gives folks the idea that octane is a more powerful fuel. Just the opposite.
