Capacitor start motors are induction motors. Induction motors are the most durable type. The armature, rotor if you prefer, has no electrical connections to it. The currents flowing in the rotor are "induced" by the magnetic field of the "stator" or the stationary field windings. Three phase motors are usually induction motors also. Series motors have terrific starting torque, but brush life is typically about 200 hours. 200 hours is lots of use for a portable drill or router, but not much for an industrial air compressor- the compressor will use an induction motor.
