This works for me on motorcycles. I wash the plates with lacquer thinner and with 1 plate wet I light the lacquer thinner to bring more oil to the surface. Do each plate several times. Wash with lacquer thinner when done. Be very carful of fire. You can have a small fire in a crack or crevice so if you come with more lacquer thinner too early life will get exciting. Have done it this way several times with satisfactory results.
