A single front or a wide front is all that 's used here for the ditch irrigating we do. The rows are on 32 in. centers which makes the marks (ditches) on 32 in. as well. A narrow front will cause more of the sides of the mark to sluff off behind the tires as you go. If a guy needs to pack the bottom of the marks so that the water will 'carry' better then he will make passes with a tractor alone. Using a single front you will pack 3 rows per pass. If you use a wide front then you need a toolbar with another weighted tire on it to get the same number of rows per trip. A narrow front isn't used for this because of the sluffing.
