Hi Davec, Not really a magical number out there as the design engineer would have to tell you what deflection was built-in to the design. Most flatbeds are prestressed up when empty and fairly flat at rated load. Keeping that in mind if you were to measure an empty trailer prestress height each time then you would get an idea if the trailer was being overloaded as the prestress would decline over time. If the rails have cracked then your on borrowed time before a complete failure will happen depending on the location of the crack(s). What will cause a failure in one design will be just fine in another design but exceeding the design weight is a pretty good way to tell that a failure will happen soon. Look for web bubbles, distorted rails as those usually show up first but not always. T_Bone
