LP tractors were scattered around the country, but especially popular in the oil producing area like Texas, Oklahoma. Many irrigation engines in that area ran on lp as well- ready supply and cheap, as a by-product of oil production. Refilling was done from 500-1000 gallon on-farm tanks. LP engines require less major maintenance because of the cleaner burning qualities of the fuel, but refilling hassle is one reason why they didn't catch on. Gas engines were still cheaper to buy.
