For me it's NOT about old tractor vs compact tractor. I just didn't want the origional poster to get the idea that a "compact" tractor could replace a "utility" tractor, new or old! Utility tractors are built much heavier and stronger than the compacts are, and that's why you can get away with baleing hay with a older 30HP utility tractor year after year, and not with the same hp compact tractor. Well, you can, but sooner or later a baler will trash the new compact tractor.
Compact tractors do pretty well for light or medium duty though, if that's the job you need a tractor for.
