I agree. The thing with most kids is that they simply don't have the mental maturity and attention span to properly operate the tractor. That's not a rip on your kid or anyone else's, because there are adults that are the same way. It's easy to see how some kids and adults see these tractors as big "toys". They see them all shined up at pulls and shows being admired by people, and they don't realize that they are or were working machines like any other farm tool. Most of these old tractors are used maybe 30 days a year at most, rather than day in and day out like they were intended. In the meantime between shows and pulls, some people forget just what they're dealing with. Most of those that grew up operating tractors and machinery on farms realize and respect the power of these old machines a lot better than some of the "city" pullers that just do it as a hobby and don't have actual farm experience. That's not to say that every puller that farms is perfectly safe, or any puller that doesn't farm is an accident waiting to happen, but just a general comment on what I've seen at pulls and shows.
