When we had to switch engines in the combine & the mechanic forgot the resistor (old engine was 12v, replacement was set up for 6v), the combine lasted about 3 hours (twice) between points. Then we figured it out.

Combines run wide open & hot of course. And as the other person said, none is needed if all parts match up in the first place.
