if batteries are the same voltage as desired ouput, then parelell the batteries 1+ to 2+, 1- to 2-, hook the + and _ of either battery not both, as needed to tractor to provide postive or negative ground

if bateries are less than desired voltage then series them until desired voltage is met, two six volts equal 12 if hooked 1+ to 2- between bateries and four 6 volt batteries equal 24 volts if hooked 1+ to 2- and 2+ to 3- and 3+ to 4-. hook the 1- and 2+ or 4+ as needed to tractor to provide postive or negative ground.
