We only did that with one tractor....the Farmall M would let out pillar of flame and a LOUD backfire from the muffler that was pretty impressive. When we'd been working that one hard and shut it off after dark, it was a simply irresistable thing to do! The H and the SM weren't nearly as impressive, so we just let them cool out at half-throttle for a few seconds, then idled and shut them off.
