Mark, Im still gonna assume it has to be changed to a negative ground so reverse the battery with - to frame, reverse any ammeter leads, if changing to 12 volts, you have to add a ballst resistor in series with high side of coil, if accessible, reverse the coil leads for neg grnd in which case + goes to ignition switch and - goes to the contact points then ground. Rear battery terminal on alternator gets to battery + through an ammeter if it has one and often to where the battery cable leads to starter. The top side small terminals on that alternator (if its one I suspect) are marked 1 or R and 2 or F. Connect (jumper wire) the one marked 2 or F to the rear battery terminal lead which goes to battery, maybe via the ammeter, and connect the terminal marked 1 or R to the ignition switch such that its hot only when switch is on. On some tractors that first goes thru an idiot type charge indicating light then the switch. If the tractor wants to still run when you turn off ignition switch, you have to place a diode of 12 to 20 volts or so and rated at least 5 amps in series in that wire from the R to the ignition switch. This has been answered numerous times on the JD page if you scroll down. Good luck, John T
