Here in the prairie provinces (Canada) quite a few farmers install rice tires on their combines when we have a wet fall as they will pull the combines through the mud better than the regular tractor type lug. Of course rice tires were originally designed for the rice fields but necessity being the mother of invention this is how we use them here. The rice tires I have seen here are very wide (23.1 X 26 or 30.5 X 32 etc.), the lugs are about 2 1/2 times as deep and are farther apart than on regular trator ties. I would presume the lugs are farther apart so that they clean well. The problem with regular tractor tires is that the lugs just fill with mud and are as usefull as a slick.
