Cub Coil hookups

on a 48 Cub where do the wires from the + & - go to. Ive got the + going back to the dash contrtol and the minus to the starter. The + shows fire. The minus, and therefore the mag shows none. Am I right an its a bad coil, though its near new, this year, or have I got them hooked up wrong. I cant get it to fire uo even though I got the elt on it from another tractor turning it over, and yes I know the pulley runs countercockwise
