If you go with Case look for 2390 or 2590. The 2290 (and 2090) was a unique transmission design that was not really up to the power that could be applied, not a real follow on to any previous design. The 2390 and 2590 were refinements of the 1370 and 1570 (the 1270 was actually a 1370 with a 451 motor more or less). All the transmission bugs were pretty well worked out by then. The hydraulics were much improved, but probably the only part that needs careful inspection if you are buying.
