I'll bet this is a darn good kid. Reminds me of when I was a kid, kinda of (althought it was about 45 years ago), I've hauled hay all day for 2 dollars, and thought "I really had some money when I got it", compared to what I had before, IT WAS...
You gotta give the kid credit for one thing, he has an idea of his worth.
Kid, if you're reading this, take Marys advice, get yourself as smart as you can, keep learing, whether it be farming or book learning, and keep believing in yourself, you'll make out just fine in this old world. I sure hope you have a nice Christmas. You remind me of me when I was your age.
