Other problems with the Ford flathead are fairly small displacement and not a particularly strong lower end. I suppose it would be possible to get 400 HP from a flathead, but I would not want to bet on the combination surviving very long.

Flatheads had their day--mostly before 1960. Most of the OHV V8's were just plain better power producers and at holding together.

On the other hand, the flathead was a very good looking engine, especially with finned aluminum heads and multiple carbs and a bunch of chrome. And the flatheads did have a neat sound. They are "just right" for some street rods where looking good and nostalgia is the desired effect.

But try to drive one fast for a long distance and you will wish you had a small block Chevy. The flatmotors get hot, especially if they have been bored out very much.

Technology marches on...the flathead Ford is a good memory. Maybe someday people will feel the same about 350 Chevys.
