Also good point. Name brand drugs are protected by patent for certain number years to encourage new drug development. WIthout it there would be none. When generics are available it goes back to supply and demand. Its not illegal to ask $100 for a bushel of apples, or sell them if someone is willing to pay. We live in a free market (usa). Some (few) people demand name brand drugs because they believe them better. I wouldn't (some are made by same drug co as brand). So i suppose that is the reason many of the worlds drug manf are here in the USA.
