One of my neighbors has an old Farmall H with a loader. When it snows, he chains a railroad tie to the loader and pushes snow. It works pretty well unless there gets to be a lot of snow at once. He has done this for all of the 40+ years I have known him. Must think it does a good enough job. By the way, if you don't have tractor tire chains and try to push much snow, you will learn the reason guys get them pretty fast. Before I got my chains, my tractor got stuck on ice on level ground and I had a heck of a time getting unstuck. I would invest in chains first, then fool around with a blade setup. If you do decide to try wood, build it really strong and not too wide. If you build it too light, it will just break up. If you build it too wide, in a large accumulation, you will get it stuck all the time. A little wider than the rear tires is about right, in my opinion. Good luck.
