Keep in mind that although too much slippage is bad, not enough is also bad. Ideally, you want the slippage to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 7-8 percent. Anything lower that that and you're increasing the wear and tear on the powertrain and tires. Proper slippage creates a "cushion" that prevents shock-loading powertrain components, and will increase tractor performance and economy. Most manufacturers recommend ballasting to a certain weight per horsepower based on the work being done, tire size and pressure and so on. You might want to contact your dealer to see where you should be. If you need to add weight and are running radial tires, add weight with iron, rather than calcium with in the tires. Cast iron is more expensive, but putting liquid in a radial tire negates a lot of the advantages radial tires give you, such as a smoother ride, less compaction and so on. Liquid also increases the load on the powertrain.
