8 volt battery charge?

I have an 8 volt battery in my tractor which has ran low from sitting. A cells measure equal on hydrometer which indicate very low and needs charging. QUESTION: how do you charge an 8 volt battery? I have a 6/12 volt charger and on the 6 volt setting it will not charge up the battery. On the 12 volt setting (just tried it for a minute) the charger kicked out on thermo cutout. Is there an 8 volt charger? or varible resister to adjust the 12 volt to about 9 volt? Any feedback appreciated..........Thanks in advance
