I like your plastic lid idea.I used a small plastic bottle,drilled a hole in bottom and fished the wire through it,neck end down in fill hole.I shook a bunch of gravel around to loosen up as much as possible.Tank sat in various positions for a couple weeks with 4 gals. of vinegar to dissolve the varvish.Might stick the pressure washer wand down the fill hole after this etectrolysis,ought to get pretty wet on that one!After all the cleaning it will get a dose of tank sealer even though it didn't leak.
