you said it clear enough on the symptoms after the trial but I read it bassackwards. Disregard my previous comment about brazing the ball. If the shifter is free and the rails won't move Be sure both rails have the shifter slot to the middle position and perfectly in line with each other. I never saw a Dexta tranny freeze even in zero degree weather with a good amount of water in the oil. I never saw water settle to the top in any kind of oil or fuel like you described. I would still think the problem is either the shifter or shift rails. Especially since it originally tried to go into reverse. That's the 1st symtom they do when there is a shifter problem. I figger the reason reverse rail position wears out sooner is because it's the most used position.
