To grind grains, you need a feed mill, mixer mill, hammer mill grinder. (all the same thing) A good one is $1000 or so plus a tractor to run it, you don't need it if you are buying your feed. To grind tree branches, you need a brush grinder, works differently, more like a cheese grater. For the garden greens, you need a couple of cattle - they grind it up real nice for you, no need to do anything. :) Steers (males) are probably a bit better at gaining weight. Heifers have the possibility of being bred.... Either work, Steers are a bit prefered. Here is a rather eccentric group of folks that get to bickering a lot, but they are homesteaders who are doing what you want to do and if you ignore the whiners the rest have real good advise.
