Oh, I dont disagree, anytime you operate a tractor there is a certain amount of danger involved, but if I am going to pull anything with a tractor I want to be as safe as possible, and not try to increase my chances of getting hurt. I mean this accident is really no different than getting off a tractor and leaving the PTO to a machine running and then getting caught in it, or leaving the PTO shields off and stepping over a shaft and getting caught. Or even as simple as driving a tractor on too steep of a grade and upsetting it. These are all things that can be prevented if you are knowledgable and use your head a little when operating a tractor. Dont get me wrong tractor accidents are awful, and some of them you cant see coming, or could do nothing about. What upsets me are the ones that could have been prevented because someone was in a hurry or didnt know better. Had someone been helping this man that day that knew about tractors and had helped him hook it up and operate it he may be alive today. Dont take these machines for granted, or they will get you... We run 10 tractors on our farm, at all hours of the day and night, from 25 HP, 50 year old tractors all the way to 200 HP 4x4 ones. Any of them can get you in a second if you let your guard down or do something stupid in a hurry. I have had enough close calls to scare me into doing things correct and safe, and we have not had an accident on our farm more than a busted finger or a brused arm in 50+ years(knock on wood). No tree or wet hay or unplanted field is worth taking a risk with your life.... Just my 2 cents for today, Im steppin off my soapbox now.... :-)
