I need a backhoe to dig a septic system and do other projects around my property, and there is a W3 (gas) for sale. It's rough, but everything seems to work except the power steering. There's no leakage around the steering cylinder or hoses, so I assume the problem is the pump. Is that a reasonable assumption? Are parts available to rebuild the pump? Can a shade tree mechanic like myself (I managed to rebuild the hydraulic pump on my Ford 640) take on this job? Also, the steering wheel slides up and down about an inch as the wheel is turned. This can't be good, but is it terrible? The rear tires are about 20%. Does anyone have a sense of what would be a fair price for this loader/backhoe? There are no W3 prices listed under Case on the Yesterday's Tractors site. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
