I have a 91 ford diesel with a banks aftermarket turbo kit. They way I know the turbo is working correctly and that the wastegate is doing its job is I have a boost gauge on the dash that connects to the intake manifold that tells me the pressure the turbo is putting on the engine. Most of your stock trucks are not going to have this gauge, but it is very nice to watch your turbo and see when you need to clean your air filter or change the fuel filter.
