My trailer was built in 1979 with mobile home axles. Truns out that they are Dexter and I can get seals, brake shoes, brake springs, what ever for it at local trailer dealer/manufacturer/service center. The tires are 14.5. Mobile home tires are not leagal for any other use, but LoBoy tires in the samne sizes are available and legal. May cost about $65.00 each. Farmers here use the mobile home tires on trailers that do not require licensing. Newer mobile homes usually have the axles removed and they are used repeatedly on new units- I know this for a fact in my area. The newer axles are halves only- with a tube used inside to span the small gap between them. This means that the axle fits virtually any mobile home because it is not a fixed width- the spirngs prevent lateral movement. Over the years, the variety of widths became quite large and inventory for the tow companies became a problem. I cannot speak to the quality of these latest axles because I have not used any of them, but they are reused repeatedly according to my observation. My neighbor (a licensed mobile home transporter) moves about 10 mobile homes a week, so I do know what he does with the axles.
