Changed to 12 volt

I changed my 540 Cockshutt to 12 volt as to the instructions given on this site (Farmall, I think). I put a 12 volt lite in line on the alt. to prevent battery drain back. This lite doe's not come on ever(the bulb is good). What doe's this mean, do I have a problem? The amp guage say's it is charging good. Thanks for any input. NorminN.B.
