Might have a cracked head-BIL has a 1600 that had a similar problem. After doing all of the above, he finally took the head off to grid the valves, thinking this was the problem. It was found that it had a couple of small (took magnaflux to find 'em) cracks in it. The machine shop fixed it, ground the valves & now it purrrrrrrrzzzzzzzz like a kitten. It likes its fuel, though. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
