What year models you looking at? In my opinion,for what it's worth, the 3000 is an excelent choice for the work your talking about doing with it. I think you'll find the diesel much more reliable over gas espeacily if it's not ran on a regular basis. My experience with gas engines not used on a regular basis is carbaration problems. I would definetly recommend the diesel. One thing to keep in mind is maintaince on the injector pump. In some regards it is an engine in itself and the oil needs to be changed just like the oil in the crank case. I would not suggest the use of either. Just my opinion. A lot of people use it on a regular basis. If you need either somethings wrong. Seems like once you start em on either, that's the only way they will start. At least that's been my experience. The 3000 does not have glow plugs. Most have an intake manifold heater, that warms intake air and injects pre-heated fuel into the intake. Go with the diesel, there not hard to learn to work on.
