Some 3000 have a manifold heater (glow plug, somedon't). Look on the front part of the outside of the intake manifold, there will be a plug with both a small plastic fuel line and an electrical wire. Most have them, but most 7710's do too,mine doesn't.

Bigger diesels are generally harder to start, 6 cyl harder than 4 and so on. This isn't always the case. I had a 2090 Case (105 hp, 504 cubic inch diesel) but it had 2 batteries and it always started better than my 7600 Ford with 256 cid, 4 cyl but only 1 battery. With a GOOD, big battery and a block heater on a well maintainted diesel will start at almost any temp. Dirty fuel (or water ) will cause serious damage to the injector pump which results in horrible starting, at any temp.
