Hi Bill :) You sound a lot like me befor I bought my 1st & only tractor. :) I guess I have to agree that a John Deer holds the value, They wanted more for junk ones than I paid for my ford. I bought an 860 ford, a 55 and it ruuns great! uses oil like I owned a well, but other than that, is great starting & running. You mentioned a front end loader. I would recomend that when you get one, make sure that it has the hydralic cylinder to control the bucket, and NOT the dump lever. It is well worth the price diffrence!! I had to pay priemum price for mine, $4,500.00 but it beats the price of trying to fix , find parts, and convert some rig that is supposed to fit but does not quite. I bought my 860 ford to landscape my yard & remove snow in the winter. It is a workhorse, and was half the price of a deere. Ford is everywhere, so is deere, let your wallet be the guide. ford does the job, deere gives you more "prestige" if you can afford that :))
