I talked to a radiator shop owner about using flushes/cleaners. He stated emphatically, "Do not use anything but clear water to flush old radiators. The cleaner will flow down into the tubes and sit atop a stoppage where it cannot be removed and eat through the tube." He went on to say backflushing should remove most debris, if further cleaning is necessary have it proffesionally disassembled and rodded out. I was talking to him about my 1932 Chevrolet at the time, because a new radiator is ~$600 and I didn't want to destroy it (Wife already calls me Tim).
