I have three ford 3000s and a 3cyl. 2000. On
one the starter would spin and not engauge
until it finally wouldn't work at all in that case
the starter drive shaft was slightly bent and
required a new starter. In another case, same
symtoms it took a new bendix. Now another
often spins but won't catch the gear. Have
taken it out and cleaned it and it shows wear
on the bendix. My dealers says that the
bendix units he is getting are bad 50% of the
time out of the box. He makes good on
anything less than a year old.
