I'm sure you're probably right. The first thing I must do is a compression test I would think. There doesn't appear to be a lot of crankcase blowby, at least from the feel of the air leaving the crankcase venting hole in the oil breather (although maybe that's not a good indicator). Then a vacumn test, I will have to drill and tap a hole into the intake manifold above the carb to get a reading I would think. What sort of vacumn reading should a guy be getting? I'm sure the carb float bowl is vented but I'll check that again too. Always a lot of fun tracking down the problem in these old things. Thanks to everyone here for the hints.
