Sounds like the old oil made a "skin" that stuck to the inside of the lube gallery and it came loose when you pushed oil through the thing (it's happened to me too). I've had some favorable results in using a suction device to pull the wad of gunk out of the gallery but you never can be sure without lots of work if you've gotten it all out ! Something else I've had favorable results with is using a strong detergent to disolve the wad of gunk. The problem with this is that most detergents can also eat up some metals (like bearings), and at the least leave the surfaces dry (metal to metal). Of course, you could allways open up the galleries and run a drill bit through them, but you're going to need a couple of "Long" bits (at least 1/2 the length of the block) in addition to all of the little ones. The best bet may be to take the engine all the way down, take the block to the shop and have it "Hot Tanked" to get all the crud out and replace things like freeze plugs and bearings (if you don't want to do a complete rebuild).
