The best answer I would offer is to look at the depressions on the top of the piston and match them to where they come to the spark plug at top of travel. I believe if you put the pistons in upside down, you risk slamming into the spark plug. There is a depression on both sides of the piston to allow it to be used in left or right cylinder but only lets the piston be in right side up without interfering with spark plug. I could be wrong so might check on JD board.
