If you still have the head off , look at the sides of the cylinder liners at 90 degrees from the front or rear of the engine. see if there are any grey lines or any small scoring running up the sides of the liners. If there are lines like this on one or more liners I would suspect that there is a hole at the base of the liner causing the mix. It is a very common problem with smaller JD engines...I worked at an industrial JD dealership for 16 years and I don't think I ever saw a head gasket failure resulting in oil/water mix...It was always the liners.
