Roundup is a CONTACT herbicide. That means it kills only weeds that are already up and growing. Spraying a few days after planting would do nothing. There is no residual action either. So with Roundup you wait until later in the season when most of the weeds have germinated. Do not cultivate after spraying- it just brings up more weed seeds that will germinate, and the Roundup will not kill them. There are many other herbicide options for various stages of corn and weed growth. Get advice from a chemical dealer. Identify which weeds exist and plan a program accordingly. 2,4-d is a broadleaf killer- does not kill grasses. To use Roundup, you need Roundup-ready corn seed. Cultivation without herbicides is also an option.
