Yes, I believe that a 6 volt coil has more winding so that when mulitplied by 6 you get, say 20 thousand volts of spark. A twelve volt coil would not need as many turns to produce the same spark. So, your thinking you could use a 6v on a 12v system and get a good hot spark or don't want to go buy a 12v on one converted. It has worked before, just make sure you have the big fat resistor in line. This is just an opinion, not hard facts.
