If you are using a double-acting cylinder on your log splitter, as the cylinder extends, oil from the rod end of the cylinder is returned to the reservoir, which helps make up for the oil you are pumping into the back end of the cylinder. Your return flow will be short by the amount displaced by the piston rod of the cylinder. If you are indeed short of tank capacity, it should be a simple matter to hook an extra tank into the one you already have. Empty 20 or 30 pound freon containers make neat oil tanks for small equipment. IF WELDING FITTINGS INTO THE TANKS,(either your original, or the one you are hooking to it) USE THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS, OR HAVE IT DONE BY SOMEONE WHO KNOWS HOW TO DO IT SAFELY!!!
