Someone I used to work with said some tanks had radial aircraft engines, and I think he said they required a blank shotgun shell to fire. He said they were real easy to over-rev and threw out rods if they went too fast. My Uncle was a Captain over a platoon that retrieved disabled tanks and put them back into service, but I don't think he told me about the engine. He had a driver that took him to find the tank, and he wrote up a service order and gave directions for the crew to go pick it up on a lowboy tractor/trailer.
